Her uninvited visitor stood a mere ten feet away, dressed in a designer suit that cost more than she made in a year, but yet he still somehow managed to look thrown away. Lightning illuminated the darkened afternoon sky, giving her a better view of him. ![]() Kennedy Garfield stood on the front porch of the two-story white house, staring out into the yard as thunder clapped in the distance. This, on top of that, was too much for her to bear. Burying her mother had taken everything out of her. She might’ve been worried about getting sick if there had been anything left inside of her to give, but no… she was empty. Her heart beat frantically, blood surging through her veins, mixing with enough adrenaline to make her stomach churn. The weatherman on channel six had predicted a calm day, but the woman knew better. Rain fell from the overcast sky in sporadic bursts, quick manic showers followed by moments of nothingness. ![]()

![]() The author was a friend of Mark Twain, and it’s easy to imagine the two writers inspiring each other. ![]() Howells was celebrated in his day for telling it like it was, yet he managed to describe even the most prosaic of business transactions with grace, economy and wit. This is an account of the life of a late-19th century American businessman and his family. Plenty happens in The Rise of Silas Lapham, and yet the particulars are so quotidian that a summary is likely to sound dull. ![]() To relegate such a rich and humane work to a state of graceful neglect is a loss that’s almost criminal. Copies sit there on the library shelf, unmoving and unread. Its classic status clings to it the way verdigris adheres to a bronze statue. ![]() This is one of those novels whose title vaguely rings a bell, like Zuleika Dobson or Ethan Frome. Don't Let the Dust Bury This American Masterwork ![]() ![]() Also, Eleanor and Park were each voiced well by the alternate actor (if that makes sense). They were also adept at voicing other characters as well as Eleanor and Park in a distinctive and believable way. What made the experience of listening to Eleanor & Park the most enjoyable?īoth voice actors were great and brought a great sense of character to the story. I think I would have preferred to hear Eleanor being a little more upbeat on a few occasions those occasions when she was with park, I imagine she would have at least not sounded so miserable then. I thought Sunil was just brilliant and I think rebecca low mans performance was just a bit to depressingly emotive but none the less good. This was my first time listening to these guys. Have you listened to any of Rebecca Lowman and Sunil Malhotra ’s other performances? How does this one compare? That was another book that left me feeling morose despite it being a bloody good book. I can't think of any to directly compare to this, I do t usually read teenage angst books so I suppose the closest thing I can think of is Tess of the durbervilles.
